Prime Video has cancelled "Spider-Noir" after one season, bringing Nicolas Cage's live-action Marvel series to an end after its eight-episode debut.

The series will not return for a second season. All eight episodes remain available to stream on Prime Video, with viewers able to watch the show either in black and white or in full colour.
Neither Prime Video nor MGM+ has publicly explained the reason for the cancellation.

Reports that production costs, including the creation of two visual versions of each episode, may have influenced the decision have not been officially confirmed.

The cancellation comes despite a strong critical response and significant awards recognition. "Spider-Noir" received 11 Emmy nominations, the most of any Prime Video series that year, in categories including production design, title design, visual effects, sound, music and stunt performance.

The series currently holds a 92% critics' score and a 90% audience score on Rotten Tomatoes. The Emmy nominations included recognition for the show's period production design, title design, sound work and visual effects.

"Spider-Noir" starred Cage as Ben Reilly, a private investigator in 1930s New York who is forced to confront his past as the city's masked superhero known as the Spider. The role marked Cage's first regular live-action television role.

The supporting cast included Lamorne Morris, Li Jun Li, Karen Rodriguez, Abraham Popoola, Jack Huston and Brendan Gleeson. Oren Uziel and Steve Lightfoot served as co-showrunners, while Phil Lord and Christopher Miller were among the executive producers.

The series premiered on MGM+ in the United States on May 25 before becoming available globally on Prime Video two days later. All eight episodes were released for streaming, allowing viewers to watch the complete first season without waiting for a weekly rollout.

"Spider-Noir" was developed through a partnership between Sony Pictures Television and Amazon MGM Studios involving characters connected to Sony's Marvel-related television projects. The series was also notable for presenting two versions of the same story: one in traditional colour and another styled as an authentic black-and-white noir production.

For viewers who followed Enstarz's previous coverage of the series, the cancellation means there will be no continuation of Ben Reilly's story in a second season. At this time, no release date, new episodes or revival plans have been announced.
